SSURF Joins Science Coalitions Letter for CHIPS Supplemental Funding

December 14, 2023: The Society for Science at User Research Facilities joined a network of  nearly 200 research organizations, academic institutions, science and professional societies, higher education associations, and private industries to urge Congress to include $13 billion in a supplemental spending package to advance U.S. national security, energy security, and economic competitiveness through research and economic development activities.

This would represent crucial investment in the National Science Foundation (NSF), the Department of Energy (DOE) Office of Science, the Department of Commerce-led Regional Technology and Innovation Hubs (Tech Hubs), the National Aeronautics and Space Administration (NASA), and the National Institute of Standards and Technology (NIST).

This statement was sent to Chairs and Ranking Members of the Appropriations Committees, and most relevant to the Energy Services Coalition (SSURF is a member) to the offices of Senate Majority Leader Schumer, Minority Leader McConnell, Senator Durbin, House Science Energy Subcommittee, Energy and Water Appropriations Subcommittees, Senate Energy and Natural Resources, and all Republicans that voted in favor of the CHIPS and Science Act.
